NSA Eastern Region Ram Sale 2015

Melton Mowbray Market was the venue for the NSA Eastern Region Ram Sale on Friday 18th September.

Buyers were out in force at the 30th Anniversary Ram Sale organised by NSA Eastern Region at Melton Mowbray Market. Topping the trade at 720 gns was a Texel shearling ram from RR and M Lawrence, Nuneaton, Warks. This one sold to GL Gent and Son, Oundle. Next in the prices were two Charollais shearling rams from R Allen from Langrick in Lincolnshire. He sold one for 710 gns and the next for 700 gns both to BL Burton Farms Ltd, Rempstone. Mr Allen had an excellent sale and his 1st prize pen of 4 rams averaged £719.25. 

The best end of the shearlings all sold upwards of 550 gns with the best of the lambs coming from the Champion Pen of Rams from Seahawes, Little Chesterton in Oxon. Their best Charollais lamb sold for 500 gns to Stephen Cobbald from Sudbury in Suffolk. 

The Champion pen of shearling rams came from R and B Smith, Northants, who sold to a top pen for 630 gns and also traded a pair of Charollais cross Texel shearlings for 560 gns and 500 gns. 

Top price Suffolk ram was from David and Julie Inman from Thorpe Satchville, Leicestershire, who sold for 600 gns to local farmer Ros Turner.

Clearance levels were excellent especially for Charollais and Texel shearling rams.

The prizes were awarded by the Major of Melton Mowbray, Jeanne-Marie Douglas and the NSA thanked the Borough Council for their continued support for the sale and the market.
