Date: 18th June 2015 - 21st June 2015

ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW NSA MARQUEE AS POPULAR AS EVER:

George Milne, NSA Scottish Region Development Officer, reports that the NSA marquee was a hive of activity at the Royal Highland Show, 2015.

Holding such a prominent position and being one of the largest display marquees on the show field, the host of activities taking place within attracted a huge throughput of both farmers and the general public over the four days.

A variety of wool demonstrations took place from peg loom weaving to spinning. On Thursday the fleece competition was judged and the prize winners were presented with their trophies by Lady Clare MacDonald, who also presented the NSA Scottish Silver Salver to this year’s worthy winner and past Regional Chairman, Jimmy Sinclair.

Aileen McLeod, Minister for the Environment and Climate Change visited the marquee and spent 45 minutes discussing current issues whilst having a tour of some of the stands and displays. NSA Scottish Region also welcomed Ruth Davidson, Willie Rennie, Alex Ferguson and Liam McArthur, who all took the time to visit the stand.

The ever popular fashion show took place on Friday and Sunday. This year there was an additional award for the best young designer.

Crook-making was also on display from Friday until Sunday along with lamb tastings. The lamb mince had been kindly donated by Aldi and prepared into mini lamb burgers by Chef Christopher Trotter. They were cooked on a BBQ and dished out to the passing visitors as trial samples.

George reports: “What a success this was, with so much positive feedback from the public from all ages. QMS provided Miss Scotland, Ellie McKeating, to help us promote the lamb tasting and the fashion show on the Sunday. Also on Sunday, NSA Scotland awarded the Michael Dun Memorial Trophy to the winner of the lamb dressing competition. The trophy was presented by Graham and Charlotte Dun to Emily Stevens. This competition is always popular with up and coming young handlers.”
