NSA Eastern Region Shearling Ram Sale 2016

Date: 26th August 2016

Location: Rugby Farmers Mart, Kenilworth, CV8 2RG

Sale report from Rugby Farmers Mart auctioneer Scott Ruck

Whether you lamb early or not , it’s never too soon to crack on and get your tups back home and in the paddock ready for the season ahead, and this proved to be the mentality around the ring at NSA Eastern Region Shearling Ram Sale on Friday (26th August). A near clear out of all entered sheep produced a clearance rate of just under 90%, and the ram sale helped install confidence in purchasers knowing that their future stock-getters had been given the once over by inspectors from head to toe ahead of the sale.

Quality from start to finish in all breeds found strong demand, particularly for power in the Charollais and Texels with only an occasional lapse in the Suffolk’s. This year’s show and sale was kindly judged by Mr Brian Whitfield, Cockermouth assisted by Geoff Walker who both made the venture down from the North to offer their servies for the day. CW Thomas saw Charollais shearlings sell to 580gns with AJ & MJ Gregory to 500gns and PC Hawes to 460gns. A Beltex cross Texel from VF Roots sold to 510 gns and CJ Millers Beltex to 460gns. Ram lambs topped at 420gns for a Charollais from AD & RM Thomas with 380gns for a Suffolk from JB & RL Cook.
