NSA South East Region Annual Members Meeting and Sheep Health Conference

NSA South East Region organised a sheep health conference to coincide with its Annual Members Meeting on Wednesday (17th February 2016). This exciting new event was organised by NSA South East Region Manager Bob Blanden, his son Tom and the NSA South East Region committee, delivered in partnership with Surrey University and its relatively new vet school.
The facility at the university is now working as one of the Defra disease and post mortem surveillance sites, as well as offering private post mortem services and, of course, teaching students. It is a state of the art facility with a viewing gallery and 3D camera that can link to teaching theatres.
Phil Stocker, NSA Chief Executive, reports: “This was a really impressive event at a very impressive venue and I hope we can turn it into an annual regional sheep health conference. We had speakers from the university and local West Point vets talking about the importance of surveillance and how it can be used to identify farm-specific disease and parasite problems and common toxicity issues from minerals and plants. Sheep consultant Kate Phillips also spoke on ewe nutrition, a subject that all agreed is the foundation of animal health.”
After the meeting, Phil was asked to speak at the open meeting about current industry situations and the work of the NSA. He adds: “A hearty shepherd’s pie wrapped the evening up and people finally departed into a cold and drizzly night air – and into a road blocking accident at the end of the university drive that I hope none of our people were involved in or resulted in any serious injuries for those involved.”
