NSA Marches Region ‘Rams: Sustainably and Profitably’ discussion and farm walk

Date: 9th July 2015

NSA, FARM HOST AND NZ COMBO DRAWS THE CROWDS

The NSA Marches Region farm walk yesterday, which was also promoted by the host farmer to his customers and was part of a UK tour by two popular New Zealand speakers, drew more than 100 visitors to Ellesmere, Shropshire.

The hugely popular event saw plenty of local people, but also visitors from Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Devon, Somerset.

Kevin Harrison, NSA Marches Region Chairman, said Robyn Hulme of EasyRams hosted a tremendous event, with all his stock presented in small groups within walking distance of the farmyard, making for a great afternoon.

Kevin reports: “Our two speakers, both visiting from New Zealand, were really good. Murray Rohloff focussed on the importance of knowing all your costs and said, although forage was expensive to produce, it remains the cheapest feed. He also touched on how farmers should use genetics to exploit that grazing. Rex Dolby then looked at soil and its effect on productivity. He showed how getting your soil right will ensure your sheep are healthier. Robyn provided an excellent walk around his stock, and it was all followed by drinks and a hog roast!”

NSA is hoping to get more detail from the speakers online soon. Pictured here (left to right) are Kevin, Rex, Murray and Robyn.
