NSA sheep worrying survey highlights powerful stats

Results are in following our most recent sheep worrying by dogs survey, and a focus on the wider implications of dog attacks has highlighted some concerning statistics about the personal impact these can have on farmers. A snapshot of headline figures from the 233 farmers surveyed across the UK include 85% listing stress as a major impact of dog attacks have on them as an individual, 46% said it had caused them to experience anxiety about spending any time away from the farm and 24% went as far as to say they’d considered giving up sheep.

NSA launches report on introduction of the lynx

An NSA report on the proposed introduction of lynx to the UK has been published, and was officially launched on Friday 8th April 2016 at an event in London. The report - The wider consequences of the introduction of Eurasian lynx to the UK - clearly identifs concerns around the project, not just because of the anticipated predation on sheep and was written in response to Lynx Trust UK claims that introduction of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) would boost rural economies and ecology and regenerate forests. The initial trial period of five years would see four to six wild adult lynx released at three sites in Aberdeenshire, Northumberland, Cumbria or Norfolk.
