Wales Regional Update - Jan/Feb 09

As a Region the last quarter of the year has been just has hectic, Margaret Dalton - Chairman and I have attended many meetings on EID and health and welfare as well as attending the Winter Fair where we sponsored the Hill and Native breed section.  Congratulations to all those members who exhibited at the Winter Fair.

On behalf of the region I would like to congratulate Snowdonia farmer Cyril Lewis who is this year’s winner of the John Gittins Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to the Welsh sheep industry.

The former Nuffield scholar, of Pen-y-Bryn, Penmachno, Betws-y-coed, who runs a flock of 1,000 ewes has been secretary of the Camda Group, the co-operative breeding organisation established in 1974 to advance the genetic merits of the Welsh Mountain breed, for three decades.

Mr Lewis, who is a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies, won the George Hedley Award for his contribution to the British sheep industry in 2005.

The Cymru Wales Annual General Meeting will be held at the Royal Welsh Show Ground on Thursday 26th February at 2.00pm, where Peter Morris the Chief Executive of NSA  will be our guest speaker, everyone welcome.
