Shepherding work made easier thanks to NSA prize giveaway

NSA Scottish Region celebrates Lamb for St Andrew’s day, at home and abroad
There was an air of celebration among NSA Scottish Region members last night (Thursday 30th November), with many years of effort to drive ‘Lamb for St Andrew’s Day’ culminating in a traditional dinner in Lauder, Scottish Borders, at the same time as an international event in Dubai opened the door to Scottish Lamb sales in the Middle East.

Celebrate Lamb for St Andrews Day with NSA Scotland
Scottish sheep farmers will be treated to an evening of delicious food and celebration as NSA Scotland holds its Lamb for St Andrews’ Day Dinner later this month. The dinner, that will take place on the evening of Thursday 30th November at Carfraemill Hotel, Lauder in the Scottish Borders, follows the success of the inaugural dinner held in 2022 that brought together sheep industry members to celebrate Lamb for St Andrews Day and all it stands for.

Further progress made on veterinary attestations
A further meeting took place on Thursday (28th September) between Defra and industry to keep the pressure up on preparing for the introduction of the requirement for farms to have had a veterinary attestation in order for products to be exported after 13th December this year.

NSA welcomes long awaited Animal Welfare Committee report
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is encouraged by some of the recommendations made in the ‘Animal Welfare Committee report on the Implications of Castration and Tailing in Sheep’, recently made available by Scottish Government. The Association is urging UK governments to now consider what next steps will be made following the report to advance UK sheep health and welfare.

The Scottish Region of the National Sheep Association (NSA) is pleased the long wait for clarity in the Scottish livestock sector is over, with the publication of the Agriculture and Rural Communities (Scotland) Bill. NSA Scottish Region welcomes Scottish Government’s approach to enabling low carbon, efficient, productive, resilient farming businesses – but hopes that, as the detail of the bill becomes clearer, it is not the case that policymakers have been blinded by low carbon only and failed to recognise that food production will never be emission-free.
