NSA relieved to report potential case of foot-and-mouth disease in Norfolk has been ruled out
NSA members may have heard rumours of a suspected foot-and-mouth disease alert on a pig farm in Norfolk late on Thursday or Friday last week (23rd/24th June 2022). NSA was in contact with Defra as a member of their livestock core group throughout this alert and is relieved to report that foot-and-mouth disease has been ruled out and the temporary control zone of sheep and cattle has been lifted, although investigations continue to determine the causes of the case.

NSA hosts international organic farmers, vets and advisors
Sharing insights into organic farming practices in the UK, the National Sheep Association (NSA) was pleased to welcome and act as host to a group of 14 international farmers from Turkey, Spain and Italy last week. As part of an EU Erasmus funded study tour, the group of farmers, vets, lecturers and advisors were treated to a jam-packed week of learning, teaching and training, organised by NSA.

NSA welcomes publication of Government response to the National Food Strategy
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is welcoming the publication of the long-awaited Government response to Henry Dimbleby’s National Food Strategy, an independent review of the UK's food system. NSA Chief Executive Phil Stocker says: “The publication of this response will provide much needed certainty and policy direction to the farming sector, with relief that there is finally recognition from the Government as to the importance of the UK’s primary production and processing sectors.

NSA joins industry in writing to George Eustice regarding live animal export from Calais
NSA joins NBA, NPA and NFU in writing to George Eustice, to stress the importance of the development of a live animal Border Control Post (BCP) at, or near to, the port of Calais in France. The UK sheep sector is heavily reliant on the export market of high value breeding stock worth millions of pounds to the industry and having been unable to export since January 2020 it is now becoming critical for those affected.

NSA Scotland Chair recognised for outstanding contribution to industry
From no fewer than seven nominations, NSA Scotland Chair Jen Craig has been announced as this year’s recipient of the NSA Scotland Silver Salver which is awarded annually in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the Scottish sheep industry. The award was presented at last week’s successful NSA Scot Sheep event held by kind permission of Robert and Hazel McNee, at Over Finlarg, Tealing.

Celebrating NSA Scotsheep 2022
A record-breaking crowd flocked to Over Finlarg for the long-awaited NSA Scotsheep 2022, where thousands of farmers, industry enthusiasts and school children gathered for a well-deserved day out in the Angus countryside. After being postponed on three previous occasions due to Covid 19, host farmers Robert and Hazel McNee, were delighted to finally open their farm gates to visitors who travelled the length and breadth of the UK and indeed from Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
