Welsh Commons Forum

The Welsh Commons Forum, which is incorporated to the National Sheep Association, supports rights holders of common land in Wales, acting as a focus for best agricultural and environmental practice through liaison with statutory non-governmental and voluntary organisations.

More than 100 commoners attended the first meeting of the Welsh Commons Forum back in February 2005, where it was agreed unanimously to create a hub for all common land issues in Wales, and in particular to assist associations in interpreting their opportunities and duties under the Commons Act 2006. The Act allows for the development of commons councils to coordinate the role of commons associations and provides a focus for local and national liaison with key organisations, such as national parks, landowners, farming groups, nature conservation organisations and the public.

Since 2005, the Welsh Commons Forum has been an active force in common land, lobbying, raising awareness and providing demonstrative events and learning opportunities. It is recognised by peer organisations and is consulted on matters pertaining to common land.
