NSA South East Region Young Shepherds Competition

NSA South East Region Young Shepherds Competition will be running in conjunction with The Southern Shears UK annual sheep shearing competition, Covid 19 permitting, by kind permission of the Gingell Family at Copford Sawmill, Dern Lane, Heathfield, East Sussex TN21 0PN.
This event is a regional qualifier for the NSA Sheep Event to be held in Malvern, 2022.
FREE ENTRY for competitors, £5 for spectators
Open to 18-26 year olds working or studying in the South East Region with some practical and theoretical knowledge of sheep work.
A great chance to compete against other Young Shepherds and demonstrate your skills. Don’t be daunted by the competition, it is always a relaxed atmosphere, and a fun opportunity to learn. Encourage any young people you know working in the sheep sector to take part.
The elements you are expected to complete are as follows: ( 5 out of 6 need to be completed)
- ATV Handling
- Electric Fencing
- Sheep Health Questionnaire
- Sheep Handling Tasks
- Sheep Shearing (competitors must have a British Wool blue seal to take part in this element)
- Lamb selection
Note: Student and Open classes will run depending on entries. Students will be permitted to drop one of the above elements, although doing so will make them ineligible to go forward to the National Finals in Malvern 2022.
Scores from each section will be collated on the day and a prizegiving at the end will announce the placings of competitors. The top two competitors will be invited to represent the South East region at the national finals at The Sheep Event, Malvern, 2022 provided they are still 26 or under at that time.
