NSA South East Region farm walk

Location: Chequers Inn, Niton Road, Rookley, PO38 3NZ

After nearly two years of restrictions NSA South East are delighted to be getting out and about again. Committee member and Isle of Wight farmer Les Morris has a drawn up a full and interesting itinerary based at Cridmore Farm, Isle of Wight on Thursday 25 November 2021. 

The day is open to members and non-members. 

Please meet at 10.30am at the Chequers Inn, Niton Road, Rookley, PO38 3NZ (parking available to drop cars and car share for the rest of the day). 

Farm walk either side of lunch, to see: 

  • Stubble turnips sown into standing wheat with an air-seeder. 
  • Stubble turnips direct drilled with Berseem Clover 
  • Westerwold Rye Grass 
  • Forage Rye for grazing 
  • Other types of forage cover crops. 

Lunch at the Chequers Inn – Shepherd’s Pie or Lasagne at £11.00 per head to be booked in advance via Sarah Blake, Regional Secretary.  

Suggested travel arrangements - the 9.00am Red Funnel ferry from Southampton (for car shares there is a car park next to the terminal) or 9.00am Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth (for car shares there is a car park over the road from the terminal). Recommended return ferry crossings - 16.30 for Red Funnel and 17.00 for Wightlink. Please see the company websites for alternative crossings. 

Note - early booking is recommended as both ferry companies will be operating their winter service meaning fewer and busier ferries.
