Reducing the risks when buying in breeding stock – ensuring your investments are wise investments’

Date: 7th September 2022

Time: 8.30am

Location: Online - Zoom

This webinar focused on what can be done to ensure the sheep you buy in are of proven quality and of a health status that protects your investment and that of the flock they are joining.

Buying breeding stock can be challenging at the best of times. In this webinar we discuss the tools available to give reassurance over the genetic potential of breeding sheep, and what is available to reduce the risks of ‘buying in more than you’d bargained for’ in relation to sheep diseases that could reduce potential and introduce disease to the main flock. In particular we take a look at the main terminal sire and maternal EBV schemes and the sheep health schemes and screening programmes that are available.

We also heard about how these approaches to sheep farming are being used at a commercial level.

Chair: Phil Stocker
