Roythornes webinar: Sheep worrying by dogs - where do you stand?

Date: 22nd November 2022

The problem of dogs worrying sheep and all of the problems that brings with it is a common issue that sheep farmers face. However, there is often confusion as to what measures farmers can take to protect their flock, both during such incidents, as well as afterwards should damage have been inflicted on the flock.

In a practical seminar, Tim Russ and Rebecca Ironmonger of Roythornes Solicitors looked at both criminal and civil aspects of sheep worrying and offered advice based on their extensive experience of helping farmers who have faced such incidents.

They covered areas such as:

  • When a farmer can legally shoot a dog on his land.
  • What actions to take when an incident has occurred.
  • Can you claim compensation?
  • Can you take the dog owner to court?
