NSA Cymru/Wales Region farm walk in conjunction with HCC

Date: 4th October 2022

Time: 3pm

Location: Maes Bach Farm, Pontypridd, CF38 1SL

NSA Cymru in conjunction with Hcc held an excellent farm walk this week, hosted by the Johnson family of Maes Bach Farm, Pontypridd. Visitors were treated to a tractor and covered trailer ride around the farm to see how the farm is embracing ‘Preventative, proactive flock health management as part of the Stoc+ scheme, together with a 40-acre area covered with solar panels, which proved to be great shelter when turning ewes and lambs out. The number of panels on site would normally be condensed to a 25-acre site, but these were put within the 40 acres and so did not look intrusive within the surroundings. We also saw grass and plenty of it as the pictures show and left us all feeling very jealous of what has been achieved. On returning to the buildings, we were treated to some welcome refreshments and a talk from their vet who had played a vital part in encouraging the Jones’ to embrace the Stoc+ scheme and are now reaping the benefits with reduced antibiotic usage, better nutrition, Iceberg disease screening and much more.
