NSA Eastern Region Rugby Ram Sale

Date: 28th August 2020

Time: 9am

Location: Rugby Farmers Mart, National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, CV8 2RG

Rugby Farmers Mart welcomed back the NSA Eastern Region sale back for its 12th consecutive year on Friday 28th of September. The catalogued entry of 171 Rams forward was up on the previous year, with several pedigree and crossbred MV accredited Rams all presented exceptionally for sale. The pre-sale show was ably and expertly judged by Mr Mark Humphreys, Buckingham, who carefully selected his prize winners from several difficult classes and our thanks go to him. After much deliberation he finally settled on his champion pen of three shearling rams, a pen of Charollais hailing from Charles Sercombe, Melton Mowbray, who received the Heygates Perpetual Trophy.

Commencing as the heavens opened at 2pm, the trade was something that definitely wasn’t dampened, with style and shape high on the purchasers’ priorities. Reporting a 73% clearance the sale topped with a corking Texel Shearling at 860Gns from M&L Blakemore & Sons, Bedford with his pen of rams averaging £704.55. Average prices across all breeds were up on 2019 prices.

Suffolks from J Key, Stockbridge sold to 640, 635 and 630 gns. Champion Charollais Rams topped at 680 gns from Charles Sercombe, finishing with an average of £672 for his pen of four.  Chris Timm from Yorkshire also topped his trade at 680 gns for a Charollais shearling tup.

Beltex x Charollais from VJ Roots topped the crossbred pens, selling to 680 gns.
