NSA Northern Region Annual Members Meeting 2017

Date: 16th February 2017

Time: 7.30pm

Location: The Hired Lad, Penrith Auction Mart, CA11 7JG

Having completed a successful two-year term as Regional Chairman, Greg Dalton handed the reins to Eddie Eastham at the NSA Northern Region Annual Members Meeting last night (Thursday) in Penrith. Eddie is a key part of the regional committee and, taking on the top job, passes the roles of Vice Chairman and Treasurer to Thomas Carrick and Ted Ogden respectively. Ted is well known in the region as auctioneer at CCM, while local farmer Thomas has come through the ranks after being selected as an NSA Next Generation Ambassador in 2015.

Joanne Briggs, NSA Communications Manager, was there to see the change-over. She reports: “A highly efficient annual members meeting, with a clear succession plan for regional office holders, was followed by a fantastic evening of presentations and discussion. JP Garnier of the AHDB Export Team provided what clarity he could on post-Brexit trade deals, with some much-needed optimism around areas of opportunity for the UK sheep sector. This dovetailed nicely with my NSA update on the Brexit priorities we’ve identified through consultation with our members and regions, and was followed by a fantastically uplifting presentation by Hannah Jackson, who was selected as an NSA Next Generation Ambassador in 2016. Hannah spoke about how the programme had sped-up progress within her own career, with her recently securing a farm managers job in Cumbria.”

Also at the meeting, Derrick and Jane Wilson were presented with the T.I. Allinson Memorial Award (pictured) for outstanding contribution to the sheep sector in Northern England. The couple were recognised for their ‘total dedication’ to the Herdwick breed and efforts to get young people off to a flying start in the sector by providing them with top breeding animals.
