NSA Cymru/Wales Region Annual Members Meeting

Date: 23rd February 2017

Time: 2pm

Location: Royal Welsh Showground, Hafod y Hendre, Builth Wells, LD2 3SY

The formal business at the NSA Cymru/Wales Region Annual Members Meeting was a quick affair, with all office holders continuing their terms. The only new business was to nominate Paul Wozencraft for a second three-year term as NSA Trustee/Director, continuing to work alongside fellow Trustees Margaret Dalton and Llew Thomas. Once this business was out of the way Llew, as Regional Chairman, introduced Aled Rhys Jones of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society as the first of four speakers.

Phil Stocker, NSA Chief Executive, reports: “Aled gave an entertaining presentation about his Nuffield Scholarship and I felt I’d shared the 49,000 miles he’d travelled across the world doing his research on the future of agricultural societies and shows. He was followed by Aled Davies, another Nuffield Scholar whose research was on the very topical subject of antibiotic alternatives. This Aled concluded his talk by introducing the audience to a new commercial product he is developing and which I could best describe this as the ‘probiotics of the cleaning world’ where rather than create a bacterial vacuum by sterilising a surface, pen or building you avoid the ‘bad bugs’ by heavily populating the area with ‘good bugs’.

“We will watch this innovation with real interest. Next there was an inspiring presentation from Jacob Anthony, an NSA Next Generation Ambassador who is already proving himself in the role for NSA and the sheep industry in general. I was grateful to then be given the chance to present some of the work of NSA and discuss issues relating to Brexit. It reinforced to me the importance of discussing our work and our approaches with members at every opportunity.”
