NSA South West Region Ram Sale 2016
Location: Exeter Livestock Centre, Devon
By Sue Martyn, NSA South West Ram Sale Secretary There was an increase in entries this year and, as usual, all entries were inspected prior to the sale. In an effort to further increase the confidence of purchasers many vendors had chosen to take part in the SureRam Scheme, where sheep had received a quarantine treatment for scab and worms before sale.

NSA Annual General Meeting 2016

Location: University of Bristol School of Veterinary Science, Langford House, Langford, Bristol, BS40 5DU
NSA held its 123rd Annual General Meeting on Tuesday at the University of Bristol Vet School, Langford on Tuesday 9th August. The AGM all went according to plan, with His Grace the Duke of Montrose being elected for a further year as NSA President, Dave Gregory continuing as NSA Honorary Treasurer, and all NSA Vice Presidents re-elected.

NSA Wales and Border Early Ram Sale 2016
Location: Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, LD2 1DY
Buyers were in a confident mood at this year’s NSA Wales & Border Early Ram Sale, with keen bidding on quality, strong sheep at the Royal Welsh Showground on the first Monday in August. It meant that, with just two more sheep sold this year than last, the gross sale figure for the 390-head put under the hammer was £213,615, compared to £195,000 in 2015.

NSA Sheep 2016, the premier technical event for the sheep sector, saw a busy day of strong crowds and trade stands reporting a huge amount of business conducted. NSA says the positive atmosphere surrounding the event reflects ‘cautious optimism’ within the industry as a whole.

NSA Sheep Centre at the Royal Welsh Show 2016
Location: Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, LD2 3SY
If nothing else, the Royal Welsh Show 2016 is sure to be remembered for its heat! Although the favourable weather seemed to impact visitor numbers, with many farmers unsurprisingly opting to get some harvesting done, the NSA building was a hive of activity.

NSA Sheep Centre at the Royal Highland Show
Location: Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, EH28 8NB
As ever, this year saw a fantastic turnout at to Royal Highland Show with the Sheep Centre’ marque proving to be a busier than ever with everything ‘sheep’, incorporating stands with everything from woollen fabrics, to fleece displays and tagging information.

NSA Eastern Region visit to the Elveden Estate
Time: 1.30pm-4pm
Location: Elveden Inn, London Road, Elveden, Thetford. IP24 3TQ
Eastern Region members were treated to a fascinating trip around the Elveden Estate, Norfolk for their summer walk recently. Agricultural farm manager Andrew Francis was our tour guide around the estate, spanning across 22,500 acres, 10,000 of which is farmland, making it the largest ring-fenced arable farm in lowland Britain.

The sun was out in full force for what was a scorcher of a day at NSA South Sheep, kindly hosted by Sir and Lady Henry Rumbold. Hordes of visitors grabbed the chance to visit the numerous trade stands and seminars, tour the host farm and watch the sheepdog trials.

Visitors to NSA Scot Sheep 2016 enjoyed glorious sunshine and a packed programme of farm tours, breed exhibits, trade stands, demonstrations, Scottish Young Shepherd of the Year competition, stockjudging, sheepdog trials, sheep shearing challenges and a comprehensive seminar programme.

Youthful Shepherds Focus Group
Location: Godolphin (formerly Darley) Stud, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 9HE
NSA Eastern Region will be hosting its first Youthful Sheep Enthusiasts Focus Group on Saturday 21st May at the Godolphin (formerly Darley) Stud, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 9HE. The events initial aim is to bring young people, aged 18-30, together to learn, discuss and socialise with other like-minded people from the region which will hopefully help them progress further in the industry.
