NSA Eastern Region Ram Sale sees strong trade for quality males

Trade was strong for quality rams at the NSA Eastern Region Ram Sale, held at Melton Mowbray Market on Friday 21st September.

An increased clearance rate of just of 80% was achieved and a top of 900gns.  This was for a very muscular Texel shearling ram from Mrs Lawrence, Upper Farm, Far Coton, Market Bosworth, sold to Streethill Farms, Lowesby, Leicester. The Lawrence’s pen of eight finished the day with an average of £585.37.

Topping the Suffolk section was local breeder Mr David Inman, with one of his four shearlings sold for 800gns to M. and I. Pick, Park Farm, Thorpe Satchville. 

Judging the pre-sale classes were Mr Percy Gilman and Mr Jamie Wild.  They selected as champion pen of rams the Charollais shearlings from Alan Thomas, Kimcote, Leicestershire.  Taking three of this pen at 780gns was W.T. Carr and Sons, Wymeswold, Loughborough.

Averages: 51 Suffolks at £486.29; 59 Charollais at £418.58; 62 Texels at £404.17. (Prices include shearlings and ram lambs)

The sale was supported by Melton Mowbray Council and Eblex.

Topping the sale at 900gns was this Texel from R. and M. Lawrence.
