Cumbrian farmer appointed Chair of NSA Policy and Technical committee

14th March 2018

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is pleased to announce Eddie Eastham, sheep farmer from Carlisle, Cumbria, as incoming Chairman of its UK Policy and Technical committee.

With a remit to discuss current and forthcoming policy and technical issues, quarterly committee meetings assist NSA in reaching policy positions and priorities for work as well as maintaining a clear focus and consistent messaging from all NSA staff and office holders.

Being elected into this position marks another NSA milestone for Eddie and is one he takes on alongside his current role as NSA Northern Region Chairman. He is also a valued part of the NSA English Committee, representing NSA Northern Region and upland farmers in the north respectively, and has had much involvement in organising the biennial NSA North Sheep event for a number of years.

Eddie says: “I have been a member of NSA’s UK Policy and Technical committee for several years now. As we prepare to leave the EU, the work of this committee is set to become even more important and I look forward to leading this group of experienced and knowledgeable members at this time.”

Having farmed in the iconic Lake District landscape for several decades, Eddie now finishes bought-in stock Longburgh, Carlisle, as well as assisting on neighbouring farms when needed for hill gathers with his team of sheepdogs. Eddie is also a Moredun Regional Advisor in Northern England.
