Funding for Scottish farmers welcomed ahead of difficult period

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is welcoming the news of a cash injection into Scottish farming hopefully ending the dispute over convergence funding.
NSA Chief Executive Phil Stocker comments: “This funding is much needed for Scottish farmers, in particular, the livestock sector, and couldn’t be more welcome at this difficult time for the industry. It is right that this has now been given and will hopefully bring a conclusion to the debate about convergence funding over the past five years. NSA hopes this will draw a line and help to unite farmers across all UK regions in the difficult months ahead.”
Scottish farmers work extremely hard to deliver an essential industry across Scotland and NSA hopes this funding will help to negate the difficult months ahead for Scotland.
NSA Scottish Region Chairman Jennifer Craig comments: “NSA Scottish Region welcomes the injection of the money to Scottish Agriculture and I would like to reiterate the point that it was the marginal areas in Scotland that qualified for the convergence funding initially. This is an opportunity during what is a politically unstable and alarming time of uncertainty, for the money to be used to provide support to the farms that qualified for it in the first place. Cabinet Secretary Fergus Ewing’s intent is that it would be used to make up the cuts to LFASS payments that our more most disadvantaged farmers are facing.”
