NSA reminds members not to forget the annual Sheep and Goat Inventory

1st December 2017

NSA would like to remind members that the deadline to complete annual inventories is approaching fast, although the dates vary for each of the four UK nations.

Completing and submitting the inventory is a legal requirement, as is including the count on your holding register, and failure to do so could increase your chances of a farm inspection in the future.

  • Scotland: Deadline of 15th December 2017, to record the number of sheep on your holding(s) as at 1st December 2017
  • England: Deadline of 31st December 2017, to record the number of sheep on your holding(s) as at 1st December 2017.
  • Northern Ireland: Deadline of 5th January 2018, to record the number of sheep as at 1st-5th December 2017.
  • Wales: Paperwork yet to be sent to farmers. Deadline of 1st February 2018, to record the number of sheep as at 1st January 2018.

When sending the Sheep and Goat Inventory letter to farmers in England, Defra also send an updated version of the Registering Your Land and Recording and Reporting Movements document. Thank you to Defra for providing copies of the information sent to producers to NSA, which can be downloaded below for information.
