Sheep visit the heart of London as part of wool celebration
They will be a long way from their usual home deep in the Cotswold’s, but for three days this week a small flock of sheep will be resident in the courtyard of Somerset House, right in the center of London. With Campaign for Wool transforming the west wing of Somerset House into ‘Wool House’ for 11 days from tomorrow (Wednesday 13th March to Sunday 24th March), National Sheep Association and British Wool Marketing Board felt it was important to have sheep resident for a period of the exhibition (Thursday 14th March to Saturday 16th March) so visitors could be close at hand to the wonderful animals that produce such an incredibly versatile and interesting natural fibre.

NSA South West Region AGM Report
At the South West regional AGM, Robert Jordan was re-elected as Chairman, with Bryan Griffiths continuing as Vice Chairman. This year the Chairman’s report focused on how the very wet weather, poor prices and Schmallenberg had all contributed to a gloomy picture.

NSA Cymru/Wales annual Chairman's report calls for 'big push' on SBV vaccine
NSA Cymru/Wales Chairman David Pittendreigh has called for ‘a big push’ to get a vaccine for Schmallenberg (SBV) licensed and available to farmers. Speaking at the NSAWales/Cymru AGM today (Monday 18th February), he called on the Welsh Government to take action, saying there had been tremendous losses in the early lambing season.

NSA Northern Region welcomes a new Chairman and recognises a stalwart of the industry
The NSA Northern Region AGM last night (13th February) saw Geoff Lawn complete his two years as regional Chairman and hand over the reins to Adam Watson of Brampton, Northumberland. Mr Watson, a keen supporter of sheep genetics and the next generation of producers, is also the Chairman of NSA North Sheep 2013 Chairman, to be held at Crimplehead Farm, Beckwithshaw, Harrogate on 5th June.

Hope kindled that EID will no longer be linked to cross compliance
Last week MEPs in Brussels voted on many amendments to the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) from 2014 to 2020 – but the one that has particularly kindled hope for UK sheep farmers is removing the link between electronic identification of sheep and cross compliance.
