Some farm experience would be useful but not necessarily essential.

There will be opportunities to get involved in assisting lambings and other management tasks as you gain confidence. Borrins Farm is a mixed livestock farm, we milk 130 cows, fatten 150 beef cattle and lamb 1500 sheep. The sheep are run on a commercial basis but a 1000 of them are pure pedigree Lleyn sheep, the others are Texel X Lleyns. We start lambing the Texels on the 10th of March inside and the Lleyns are due at the start of April, which we lamb mainly outside. You will be required to work as a part of a team alongside our family and current staff members. Some of your roles will include helping with gathering, feeding, watering and general up keep of the sheep. Lambing sheep, supporting new born lambs and feeding pet lambs, turning out and checking livestock and helping with other jobs such as marking and tailing lambs and sheep. Opportunity to gain lambing experience on a hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales. We will be lambing 550 sheep from 10/04/2019 including Swaledale, Lleyn and Texel sheep. All work will be in our lambing shed during the day, and night shifts are not required. You will be expected to help with lambing the ewes, feeding ewes and lambs, mucking out pens and handling sheep. Good sheep husbandry is essential and training will be provided on all these jobs. We have had student help for a few years now and we are looking for students who are willing to work a minimum of 2 weeks. Experience is preferred but enthusiasm and a good attitude are more important. Accommodation is in the family farmhouse and home cooked meals will be provided.

Previous experience would be useful but not essential. Guidance and training will be given. Activity will involve checking lambs and feeding sheep in surrounding fields 20% of time and constantly tending to stock indoors 80%. You will gain valuable experience in a friendly and supportive environment. Dependant upon performance some remuneration will be considered. We are looking for support covering 1 or 2 weeks from 22 April -5 May 2019.
