Lambing starts 09/03/2019 for 5 weeks with 200 ewes indoors.
1 student with no previous experience required; accommodation provided.
This is a a fantastic opportunity for a work experience placement working alongside a young but experienced sheep/arable farmer with high standards of husbandry and flock performance. I lamb approx 200 ewes indoors within a five week period starting on 9 Mar 19. I am looking for a student to work full time for the full five weeks, therefore, this placement is ideally suited to someone on a gap year. This will be the fifth year of employing gap year students and all previous students have gone on to get Vet Med placements which their time here has helped them achieve. Previous students have been taught all levels of husbandry and have had the opportunity to take part in casaerians and post mortems alongside the farm vet. The farm is in beautiful rural Oxfordshire. Private accommodation is available with internet etc. The successful applicant will have a understanding of the hours and effort that will be required, be over 18, flexible and keen to get involved! They will have regular time off each week so a driving licence and own transport is preferred so you can travel home. Meals are provided, although unfortunately we are unable to cater for vegetarians or other dietary requirements. Some financial remuneration will be available to the right candidate.

Lambing starts 25/03/2019 for 3 weeks with 600 ewes indoors and outdoors.
2 students with previous experience required; accommodation provided.
We aim to lamb the majority of sheep outside with triplets and some singles indoors for wet fostering. The ewes are a mix of Coopworth, Aberfield and NZ Suffolk. This year we will be using Lleyn and Blue Texel rams to breed replacements, aiming for a lower mature size ewe and improved lamb finishing. Our terminal sires are Meatlinc's. We focus on breeding resilient, maternal sheep and aim for low intervention at lambing. We individually tag and record all lamb births so that we can monitor flock performance.

This is an ideal opportunity for a student or two looking to gain more experience working on a diversified mixed farm. We currently run 240 breeding ewes on our predominantly arable farm. Last year, we had two fantastic students, one looking to get into agriculture and the other as part of her Vet Student training; both had three successful weeks with us, carrying out a variety of different lambing-related and farm-related tasks. This placement is ideal for someone with some previous experience as we are a pair of hands down this year, although we welcome all applications. We would be keen to meet or talk to applicants over the next couple of months. We can provide accommodation and meals for successful applicants.

Past students feedback has been that this really helps their confidence in their knowledge. We also have another team who show the public the farm. Lambing starts 01/04/2019 for 6+ weeks with 3000 ewes outdoors.
2 students with previous experience required; accommodation may be provided.
My wife and I have been shepherding for over 5 years now. First time farmers. We have a flock of 3000 in lamb ewes, a mix of breeds and ages, predominantly Romney, North Country Mules, Suffolk and Texel and also a small flock of pedigree Southdowns, due to lamb out doors starting the beginning of April. We are currently tenant farmers and have grazing in and around West Sussex so being able to drive and have the use of own vehicle is useful but not essential. For most of our ewes it will be their second year lambing with a couple hundred being their first. There are some other older ewes too. We aim to lamb all outdoors but do have the use of a barn to house up to 300+ ewes if needs be. The team is myself, full time, my wife part time, one other full time staff member and an additional part time staff (30+ years experience) so lots to be learned from. We can offer the use of our spare room for accomadation if needs be, but just to advise, we have 3 children under the age of 5!!! We also have several working dogs so other dogs are very welcome.
