A new sponsor of the NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales is a familiar face at the two sales held on the Royal Welsh Showground each year. Jonathan Guy’s company,J G Animal Health, provides a specialist approach to livestock mineral supplementation, feed, and bedding solutions for the livestock industry.
Jonathan relishes the opportunity to chat with farmers about their various requirements and says the Builth sales are an ideal venue. He likes to find out what the issues are on an individual farm, before coming up with as complete a package as is required.
He says: “I’m a big supporter of the NSA and of all the sheep events. The NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales are excellent for meeting everyone, from pedigree breeders through to commercial.
“I meet farmers from all over the country there. We have customers from Shetland to across northern Europe, so it’s great to meet a good number in one place!”
Jonathan set up his company in 2004, having spent a lifetime in agriculture, originally running a farm with 4,000 sheep in the early Seventies. He felt that there was a need to offer a complete on farm package with regard to vitamin and mineral drenches, and in terms of analysing forage and identifying and treating individual problems.
He stresses the importance of a pre-lambing boost for ewes, so that they have plenty of quality colostrum. Products to maintain good levels of cobalt and selenium are also important, as are those to ensure gut bacteria is activated.
Forage analysis is also an important service to identify any potential or occurring problems. An anti bacterial and anti fungal bedding powder is offered to keep bedding cleaner, fresher and drier for longer is also among his product range.
J G Animal Health products are all designed to a specific requirement and everything is contract manufactured. He works with a number of agents around the country, but says he enjoys the personal contact with farmers and that his mobile phone is never switched off!
