Select Sheep

2nd September 2016

Sheep farmers will be able to choose from a selection of rams, unrivalled in Europe, at the NSA Wales & Border Rams sales main event on the Royal Welsh Showground, Monday 19 September.

There are 5,380 sheep entered from more than 20 breeds, so that the sale offers farmers a diverse choice of tups. Farmers can take advantage of a one stop shop and be assured of quality,  health- checked rams.

Organisers say the rams are inspected to a level that doesn’t happen in other sales. They’re checked to ensure that their basic health conditions are good, giving a level of assurance to buyers.

The sales also provide a financial floor, so that the buyer gets a good indication of the value of the rams and the confidence that he or she is paying a fair price.  Farmers coming to buy can see the rams alongside other stock, do a basic comparison and make sure the ram is visually appealing and also often get the back up of some of the EBVs and recording information if they are available.

Last year a busier sale than for many years saw a top price of 7,000 guineas and good average prices.  The turnover was up on last year at nearly £2.2million, and a clearance of 84% saw 4,400 sheep sold.
