Interim Chair appointed for NSA Scottish Region

7th September 2022

Following the resignation of Jen Craig as NSA Scottish Region Chair on Saturday 3rd September, the decision was taken to put one of the two NSA Trustees from the region in the position of interim chair for the foreseeable future. The regional committee met on the evening of Tuesday 6th September and unanimously agreed that Peter Myles, a well-known sheep farmer from Glenesk, Angus, would take the interim role.

Phil Stocker, NSA Chief Executive, says: “It is with regret that Jen resigned. She did an incredible job steering NSA Scottish Region through some difficult times over a period of almost four years and NSA will make sure her efforts have not been wasted. I respect Jen’s decision, which was made with the interests of NSA at heart. We now need to continue the progress she has made.

“To deal with the situation quickly and firmly, the decision was made put one of the two NSA Trustees from Scottish Region in the position of interim chair. I am very pleased Peter Myles has agreed to do that. He will work closely with the existing regional committee, NSA Head Office and the other NSA Trustees to drive NSA activities forward in Scotland and build even further on the excellent work done by Jen. I know we have Jen’s support in making these decisions and I have full confidence NSA Scottish Region will continue to deliver fully for NSA members and the wider industry.”

Speaking after the meeting on Tuesday evening, Peter said he was honoured and looking forward to taking on the role. He praised the work and dedication of his predecessor, saying: “Jen has made an astounding job of steering NSA Scotland through what has sometimes been difficult and turbulent times, but leaving our organisation in much stronger heart. Our committee is a terrific group of vibrant and engaged members with an abundance of talent, who have shown an adaptability to take on the challenges ahead with enthusiasm. Together we can tackle the many and pressing issues we have here in Scotland for the sheep industry.”

Jen became chair in February 2019 for an initial two-year term, extending to a second two-year term in early 2021. She was due to stand down at the NSA Scottish Region Annual Members’ Meeting in early 2023. Peter has been an NSA Trustee since early 2018.
