EWE HOGG ENTRIES SOUGHT FOR NSA SCOTSHEEP 2020 SHOW AND SALE

12th February 2020

Entries are now being accepted for the multi-breed show and sale of pairs of ewe hoggs which will feature at this year’s national sheep event NSA Scotsheep 2020.

The biennial event, organised by the Scottish region of the National Sheep Association, with Clydesdale Bank as major sponsor, will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at Robert and Hazel McNee’s Over Finlarg unit, Tealing, Dundee.

It’s set to attract a strong line-up of ewe hoggs born in 2019 from well-known breeders across the country.

Nine classes will be on offer for Bluefaced Leicester, Mules, North Country Cheviot, Blackface, Suffolk, Texel, any other native breed, any other continental breed and any other cross breed, with both MV accredited and non-accredited sheep eligible for sale.

“The show and sale of ewe hoggs held at previous NSA events has always attracted huge interest with a large ringside of buyers present,” said event chairman Willy Millar.

“This sale will give breeders a chance to showcase their stock and give buyers an opportunity to purchase some of the best bloodlines in the breeds. I would encourage any prospective exhibitors to get their entries in as early as possible in case numbers are limited.”

Closing date for the entries is Monday, May 25 and an entry fee of £25 per pair (plus VAT) should be made payable to NSA Scotsheep. One entry ticket to the event will be supplied per exhibitor and further exhibitor entry tickets can be purchased for £5 (plus VAT).

Sheep entered for the sale must be penned before 7pm on Tuesday, June 2 or by 7am on Wednesday, June 3, to allow judging to take place within pens at 9am on the day of the event.

The judge for the pre-sale show is United Auctions’ retired sheep auctioneer and sales director Matt Stevenson, Gargunnock, Stirling.

Prize money per class includes £50 for first prize, £25 for second and £10 for third, with the overall champion attracting an additional cash prize of £100.

All sheep entered for the show must be offered for sale which will be conducted by United Auctions at 4pm. If sheep cannot be uplifted by purchasers on the day, it is hoped that arrangements can be made for buyers to collect their purchases from the premises of the vendor within 14 days.
