Ritchie sheep race prize to aid new entrant sheep farmer

Following a family recommendation to join the National Sheep Association (NSA), Mia Salisbury from Westward Ho! in Devon has become the latest recipient of an NSA membership prize this year.
Mia does not come from a farming background but from an early age had an interest in working with livestock, helping a local farmer with his small flock of Texels. Later Mia developed an ambition to start her own small flock after working with sheep on her cousin’s farm. This led Mia to sign up to NSA membership earlier this year with the aim of learning more about sheep farming and the wider sector.
On hearing the news she had won the prize, a sheep race worth more than £1000, kindly supplied by leading sheep handling equipment manufacturer Ritchie Agricultural, Mia says: “It was so unexpected to win. I am very excited to have something that could help me in my pursuit of a career in agriculture.
“My family encouraged me to join the NSA so I could keep updated with the farming community and further my knowledge of the agricultural world. Winning this prize will help me in handling the current flock I work with that we are hoping to expand, further helping me to learn along the way!
Mia currently works on her cousin’s dairy farm which is also home to the small sheep flock Mia is most responsible for. NSA wishes Mia the very best of luck in now progressing with her shepherding career and hopes the Ritchie sheep race will help her along that journey.
NSA now has two further sheep races, each worth more than £1000 to giveaway to new members this year.
