Shetland Island farmer receives boost to data recording inventory

10th December 2015

As the NSA 2015 membership recruitment campaign draws to a close, it was the turn of Shetland Island farmer John Odie to receive the penultimate prize of an EID stick reader kit.

NSA teamed up with Shearwell Data in 2015 to give away one stick reader kit a month through the year, and has now kicked off the 2016 campaign by teaming up with no less than three companies. FecpakG2, Cox Agri/Richey and JG Animal Health have all donated six £200 vouchers, one each for the bimonthly prize draw giveaways planned next year.

New NSA members will be automatically entered into the giveaway, while existing members will get a draw entry each and every time they recommend someone to join NSA. There is no limit to the number of entries for existing members, so more recommendations means more chances to win.

Having benefiting from winning a stick reader kit this year, Mr Odie says the prize draw was an added bonus to joining NSA. He says: “I decided to become a member of NSA to keep up-to-date on current affairs within the sheep industry and upcoming NSA events. I signed up while visiting NSAs stand at Highland Sheep earlier this year.

“I have been using Shearwell tags since I started working with sheep on my father’s crofts. I already use Shearwells software and a data recorder so the stick reader will be a great addition to our inventory. I started my own flock when I was 15 with four Shetland ewe lambs and gained my first croft tenancy when I was 21. The business has since continued to grow and I currently run about 400 Shetland ewes and 100 Shetland cross Cheviots.”

With even more chances to win in 2016, NSA Scottish Region Development Officer George Milne says: “NSA is pleased to be able to offer these vouchers, the aim been to encourage and promote NSA membership, which will help in giving us a stronger and more effective voice, while enabling us to provide better support and services. Thanks are owed to FecpakG2, Cox Agri/Richey and JG Animal Health for making this possible in donating £1,200 worth of vouchers each, to be given away throughout the membership recruitment giveaway.”

The prize draws will be done bimonthly throughout the year, and every time a winner is picked all non-winning entries will automatically roll over to the next draw.
