Register now to make the most of Medicine Hub, encourages NSA
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is welcoming the call for UK livestock vets to work with their farmer clients to assist in populating the national Medicine Hub with farm antibiotic data. UK farms already have among the lowest use of antibiotics in Europe, however sheep, beef and dairy sectors have found it a challenge to evidence this responsible use due to a lack of data at a national-level.

NSA notifies sheep breeders of new Scrapie solution to GB/NI breeding stock trade
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is welcoming changes to scrapie monitoring requirements that will enable the continued movement of breeding sheep to Northern Ireland. An agreement has now been reached to allow any breeder involved in trade of breeding sheep between Great Britain and Northern Ireland to register for the new scrapie requirements immediately through membership of a new Scrapie Qualifying Scheme (SQS) now available through SRUCs Premium Sheep and Goat Health Scheme.

NSA Lambing List opens, providing network for farmers and students to connect
The National Sheep Association (NSA) Lambing List is now once again open for business ahead of the 2021/2022 lambing season, providing the perfect solution for sheep farmers seeking extra help at their busiest time of year. The NSA Lambing List connects sheep farming members of NSA requiring assistance at lambing time with agricultural and veterinary students looking for a work experience placement as part of their studies, therefore benefitting both parties.

The British farmer cares too – and is not the villain in climate change debate
What can you do to help slow climate change? A question asked by many as COP26 gets fully underway this week in Glasgow. Frequently the answer of the mainstream media to the question is to reduce meat consumption but the National Sheep Association (NSA) is emphatically re-emphasising why this is not necessarily the answer and is urging the UK public not to continually point the finger of blame at the nation’s farmers in the climate change debate.

NSA Next Generation events return to encourage and support future UK sheep farmers
Young people with an enthusiasm for the UK sheep sector are invited to join two free winter conferences and workshops next month, held as part of the National Sheep Association (NSA) Next Generation project. Having previously held successful conferences at many livestock markets across the UK this will be the first time NSA Next Generation has had the opportunity to host an event specifically for the future of the UK sheep industry since 2019.

NSA expresses disappointment in Government’s UK/NZ trade ‘agreement in principle’
The announcement that an ‘Agreement in Principle’ has been reached for a new trade deal between the UK and New Zealand risks undermining UK sheep farming and the standards that the country’s hard-working shepherds adhere to. NZ FTA - Dismayed, Disappointed and Worse... Not Surprised
It has been announced under the new Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that New Zealand exporters will be able to send 35,000 tonnes of lamb to the UK tariff-free for the first four years. This will then rise to 50,000 tonnes for 10 years before quotas are removed altogether - similar to what has previously been outlined with Australia.
