NSA helps farmers source lambing team
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is pleased to announce the opening of its much valued NSA Lambing List for the 2020/2021 lambing season. The Lambing List, which has run successfully for several years now, connects sheep farming members of the NSA who need assistance at lambing time with agricultural and veterinary students looking for a work experience placement as part of their studies, therefore providing the perfect solution for both parties at this busy time of year.

Ritchie sheep race prize to aid new entrant sheep farmer
Following a family recommendation to join the National Sheep Association (NSA), Mia Salisbury from Westward Ho! in Devon has become the latest recipient of an NSA membership prize this year. Mia does not come from a farming background but from an early age had an interest in working with livestock, helping a local farmer with his small flock of Texels.

NSA disappointment as MPs reject amendment ensuring high food and welfare standards
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is today responding to last night’s vote in the House of Commons on a Lords amendment to the Agriculture Bill that would force future trade deals to meet UK animal welfare and food safety rules. The vote which saw MP’s reject the amendment with 332 votes to 279 will potentially allow food products with lower standards than that produced in the UK to be accepted into the country once new trade deals are secured following the UK’s departure from the EU.

NSA welcomes launch of further sheep disease monitoring schemes
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is welcoming today’s news of the launch of two new sheep disease monitoring schemes by Scotland’s Rural College’s (SRUC) Premium Sheep and Goat Health Scheme (PSGHS). The new monitoring schemes will sit alongside SRUC’s PSGHS Accreditation Schemes providing a further level of assurance for buyers looking to reduce disease risk.

NSA highlights UK’s potential for carbon neutral sheep farming
The National Sheep Association (NSA) has welcomed a recent Auckland University of Technology report suggesting that New Zealand sheep and beef farms are close to becoming carbon neutral. The report that concludes that New Zealand farms can have 63-118% of their on-farm agricultural emissions offset when accounting for carbon sequestration comes as exciting and welcome news for UK livestock farmers who have much in common with their Southern Hemisphere counterparts.

NSA Scotland Working Together To Encourage Scotch Lamb for St Andrews Day
United Auctions has been joined by NSA Scotland, NFU Scotland and the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland (IAAS) to promote the use of Scotch Lamb PGI to celebrate St Andrew’s Day (30 November). The campaign to get Scotch Lamb onto menus and dinner tables for St Andrew’s Day has kicked off, with the stakeholders asking farmers, crofters and producers to get involved and spread the word at a local level.

British sheep farming must not become ‘sacrificial lamb’ in future trade deals, says NSA
Domestic sheep farming must be safeguarded amongst future trade deals with New Zealand and Australia. This was the message delivered by the National Sheep Association (NSA) to the International Trade Select committee at a meeting this week. Establishing new trade deals is a central part of UK Government strategy and relates closely to our departure from the EU.

NSA SCOTLAND GIVES EVIDENCE AT LIVESTOCK WORRYING BILL
