SHOW AND SALE OF EWE HOGGS A MAJOR FEATURE OF NSA SCOTSHEEP 2018

23rd March 2018

PRESS RELEASE

A show and sale of pairs of ewe hoggs born in 2017 will again be a major feature of this year’s biennial national sheep event – NSA Scotsheep 2018 – to be held at Kings Arms Farm, Ballantrae, Ayrshire, courtesy of Robert and Caroline Dalrymple, on Wednesday, May 30.

Entries for the show and sale are now being invited by the event organisers, National Sheep Association Scotland, and nine classes are on offer for Bluefaced Leicester, Mules, North Country Cheviot, Scottish Blackface, Suffolk, Texel, any other native breed, any other continental breed and any cross bred. Both MV accredited and non-accredited sheep are eligible.

The show and sale was introduced at the first NSA Highland Sheep at Dingwall Mart in 2013 and has been repeated at NSA Scotsheep and NSA Highland Sheep – which are held in alternate years – every year since.
“The show and sale provides an opportunity for breeders to show-case their top ewe hoggs,” said event chairman, George Allan, secretary of the Scotch Mule Association. “The sale has attracted strong buying interest at previous events and four-figure prices have been achieved.”

The entry fee is £25 per pair (plus VAT) and prize money of £50 for a first, £25 for second and £10 for third is on offer, with the overall champion attracting an additional cash prize of £100.

The judges will be Andy Woodburn, Snr, Netherwood Farm, Muirkirk, Cumnock, (Blueface Leicester, Mules, Scottish Blackface and any other native bred) and Brian MacTaggart, Orchardton Mains, Palnackie, Castle Douglas, (NCC, Suffolk, Texel, any other continental breed and any other cross bred).

All sheep entered for the show must be offered for the sale which will be conducted by United Auctions at 4.00pm. If not uplifted on the day, it is hoped arrangements can be made for buyers to collect their purchases from the premises of the vendor within 14 days.

“Entries for the show and sale may have to be limited and I would urge prospective exhibitors to start thinking about what they might want to enter and get their entries in early,” said Mr Allan. Closing date for entries is Monday, May 21.

Entry forms can be obtained from NSA Scotland event’s organiser and secretariat, Euan Emslie, 3 Briar Close, Newport, Brough, East Yorkshire, HU15 2QY, at euan@nsascotland.org Tel: 01430 441870. Mob: 07718 908523.

An entry fee of £25 plus VAT per pair of ewe hoggs entered, payable to NSA Scotsheep, will apply and each exhibitor will receive one entry ticket to NSA Scotsheep.
