‘Tremendous interest’ at NSA Sheep 2016 sheepdog sale sees 2,750gns top price

27th July 2016

Auctioneers Clee, Tompkinson & Francis report that ‘tremendous interest’ was expressed in the sale of working sheepdogs by a large crowd at NSA Sheep 2016, held at Malvern, Worcestershire. Of the 27 dogs presetned, 23 changed hands to buyers from Cornwall to Derbyshire.

The top price of 2,750gns was claimed by Graham Powell of Kington, Hereford. His quality 22-month-old registered bitch, called Jane, had done flock work and had trial potential. After spirited bidding she eventually sold to N.F. Clothier and Sons from Radstock, Somerset, and will be used on their flock including some15,000 store lambs purchased annually. Graham Powell also sold the top priced dog at the same sale four years ago.

Regular dog seller Trevor Morgans of Brecon sold three dogs. The best at 2,600gns was a young 11-month-old registered bitch sired by Tony Rofe’s dog Tom. This one went to D.B. Davies and Sons, Eisteddfa Fawr, Pembrokeshire, to work their hill flock on the Prescelli Hills.

Well known sheep triallist Kevin Evans sold a classy three-year-old registered bitch at 2,100gns to W.J. Grindle from the Forest of Dean, and a further three-year-old bitch at 1,850gns.

Younger registered bitches with potential were keenly sought after, with the Games family having a particularly successful day selling five homebred youngsters from 600gns to 1,300gns.
