NSA Sheep Event workshops set to provide practical advice for flock improvement

14th June 2022

An extensive and varied programme of workshops at this summer’s National Sheep Association’s (NSA) Sheep Event will ensure visitors have the opportunity to keep up to date with the latest advice and information on a range of topical sheep issues.

The workshops are a popular feature of the flagship event of the NSA, taking place on Wednesday 27th July at the Three Counties Showground, Worcestershire. A timetable of interactive sessions runs throughout the day with industry experts passing on skills and knowledge to the benefit of the sheep farming audience.

NSA Chief Executive Phil Stocker explains: “NSA Sheep Event is known as an informative business to business event for the country’s sheep farmers. The workshop programme is an integral part of this giving visitors the opportunity to really take home some valuable advice from leading experts that can help them improve and progress their flocks."

Sheep health will dominate much of the workshop programme, with separate sessions from event major sponsors and workshop sponsors looking at best practice vaccination advice, responsible use of antibiotics, how to mitigate iceberg diseases when selecting breeding stock, how to use sheep post-mortems to identify and improve flock health and tackling the important issue of sheep scab. Workshops will also cover sheep nutrition and how best farmers can utilise their grasslands.

Then, as sheep farmers in England face significant changes to agricultural policy the event workshop programme will also deliver two useful opportunities for producers to learn more about future farming schemes including the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI), the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway and Local Nature Recovery schemes. Representatives from Defra will be on hand to answer questions on how the schemes will affect and could benefit sheep farmers in the future.

Mr Stocker continues: “This year’s workshops are topical and of real value for sheep farmers. NSA is grateful to the event sponsors for providing interesting content and ensuring a high level of technical detail. The workshops are intended to be more informal and more interactive than the seminar programme, allowing visitors to steer the direction of the discussion and gain practical advice for their specific situation.”

In addition to the workshop programme visitors to NSA Sheep Event 2022 will have the opportunity to find out about the latest innovations and products available to them from more than 250 trade stands and to join some informative discussions in the seminar tent. A series of competitions are also run throughout the day, providing entertainment and encouraging the next generation of sheep farmers, while a sheepdog sale is always a big draw for visitors. A sheep industry dinner is held the evening before the event, which is a celebratory occasion open to everyone within the sector.
