Get the best from your working sheepdog with NSA Next Generation

Continuing its series of interactive workshops this summer the National Sheep Association (NSA) Next Generation programme is excited to join up with the International Sheepdog Society (ISDS) to deliver two basic sheepdog training events next month.
Whether attendees are looking to purchase their first working sheepdog or want to make progress with a new or young dog these NSA workshops will go back to basics building the foundations for a successful working relationship with the sheep farmers’ canine best friend.
Delivered by highly experienced and respected sheepdog handlers the short sessions are free to attend but places must be booked online in advance by visiting www.nationalsheep.org.uk/events.
Robin Dean, English Vice President of the ISDS comments: “This summer and in the future the ISDS is looking forward to working with NSA and its Next Generation programme delivering help to young shepherds beginning in July with two focus days on getting the most out of your working dog, with expert advice and demonstrations from experienced sheepdog handlers.”
NSA will be joined by well known Suffolk dog trainer Ed Hawkins for the first event taking place on Thursday 20th July at Hadleigh Estate, Ipswich, Suffolk. This will be followed by a second event delivered by husband and wife sheep dog training team Michelle and Gary Bruce near Udny, Aberdeenshire on Wednesday 26th July. Attendees will be able to choose from a morning or afternoon session where they will pick up tips and advice from the highly experienced trainers.
NSA Communications Manager Katie James says: “We know that sheepdog handling is one of the most vital shepherding skills and so we are pleased to be able to offer these two useful sessions to give young sheep farming enthusiasts some basic advice on how to get the best from their sheepdog.
“NSA is very lucky to work with such knowledgeable trainers to offer these courses and is looking forward to what promise to be two excellent events. We encourage interested parties to register as soon as possible to secure a place at their preferred training workshop.”
Although the day is aimed at 16 to 35 year olds all ages will be welcome however under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

The sheepdog workshops follow a successful introduction to sheep showing event held last month in Leicestershire. NSA’s series of workshops this year are providing new and young sheep farmers with the opportunity to acquire and build on existing shepherding skills and are part of NSA’s work to secure the future of the sheep industry through young people.
