Sheep Breeders Round Table 2019

The cross-industry organised Sheep Breeders Round Table was held on Friday 15th to Sunday 17th November 2019, near East Midlands Airport, Derbyshire. The event was enjoyed but a wide range of farmers, breeders, researchers, vets and others. NSA was one organisation within the steering group, which is chaired by Leicestershire sheep farmer Charles Sercombe. Others included Agrisearch, AHDB, HCC and QMS.

If you missed the event, copies of the programme and all presentations are provided below. The event will run again in autumn 2021.

  • Friday session 1: Developing a resilient UK sheep industry - sponsored by the EU iSAGE project and chaired by Kim Matthews of AHDB
  • Friday session 2: Update on activity in the UK - chaired by outgoing SBRT Chairman Jonathan Barber.
  • Friday session 3: International session - chaired by Sarah Millar of QMS
  • Friday evening: Conference dinner followed by guest speaker Andrew Loftus of Sell My Livestock on 'Opportunities for the UK sheep industry'
  • Saturday session 1: Starting with the end in mind - chaired by SBRT Chairman Charles Sercombe
  • Saturday session 2: Increased focus on ewe efficiency - chaired by Phil Stocker of NSA
  • Saturday session 3: Keynote speaker session - chaired by geneticist Mike Coffey
  • Saturday session 4: 'Building skills' workshops - chaired by independent sheep consultant Liz Genever - no powerpoint presentations available
  • Saturday evening: Drinks reception sponsored by SRUC and EGENES. Conference Dinner. Presentation of the NSA George Hedley Memorial Award
  • Sunday session 1: Our vision and mission - chaired by Sam Boon, Signet
  • Sunday session 2: What do we need to look at next? Chaired by Gwawr Parry, HCC
