About NSA South Sheep
NSA South Sheep 2018 took place on Saturday 8th September at the South of England Showground, Ardingly, West Sussex.
INVESTING IN A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Other Regional Sheep Events like NSA South Sheep have in the main, traditionally been on farm and held in May/June. Having consulted with our members we realised that there was an acceptance that the timing was when many people are busy with the tail end of Lambing, Silage making, Haymaking and Shearing. Although buildings are empty at that time, finding suitable farms to host our event has proven increasingly difficult and is becoming harder and costlier to put in all the infrastructure. So we have taken the decision that although we cannot offer a Farm Tour on the day and there is not a flock on site to focus on, we hope by providing lots of additional activities on the day, and Farm Walks on other occasions , we will be hosting a not to be missed event. One other change is that our young shepherd’s competitions will be taking place on 2 nd June so as to select our regional representatives to go to the Final of the Next Generation Shepherds Competition at Malvern on 18 th July . Over the next couple of months, you will be seeing this website swell with attractions like a Full Seminar Programme and a Discussion/Workshop area and competitions that will go from the planning stage to being offered for all attendees and exhibitors to get involved with. There will be the usual Trade and Breed Stands , Demonstrations with a new Demonstration Area as well as those taking place on stands.
We have reintroduced a Photographic Competition which will allow us to produce a 2019 Calendar that will be on sale on the day. Details of how to enter are on this website under ‘Competitions’. Other competitions taking place on the day , Texel Progeny Classes , and a Prime Lamb Selection Competition , open to anyone on the day on the AHDB Beef & Lamb stand, along with a Live/Carcase Prime Lamb Classes . Along with the competitions, there will be Butchery Demonstrations, which are always popular. There will be Fleece Competitions within a ‘Celebrating Wool Area’ where there will be a Spinning Demonstration and Wool related stands. We will be holding a ‘Farm Dog Trial’ which is different to a Sheepdog Trial in that a slightly larger group of sheep will be handled through a course that bares more relevance to dogs working sheep on a farm situation. As well as UK Competitors , there will be some coming in from European Countries where this style of competition is popular. As well as the competition taking place in the Main Ring, there will be a Working Dog Handling and Training Demonstration by David Rees . As well as the trade innovation, there are plenty of fresh Practical Ideas on farms, worthy of a Competition. If you have a simple or even not so simple bit of kit that you have made, that could help others, enter it and as well as the chance to win a Prize, you will be appreciated by others.
