Best practice at lambing time

Date: 23rd January 2023

Time: 7pm

Location: Online

With some concern throughout industry that coupled with feed prices, the loss of oral antibiotics for lambs, vaccine shortages, and now a suggestion that iodine prices may quadruple, there could be a risk to the health of the national flock, NSA was pleased to host a pre-lambing webinar to aid farmers preparing for the busy season.

This webinar looks at the potential impacts of these external factors but also how ewe condition, hygiene and colostrum quality can help mitigate these impacts. Hearing from leading vets to advise on best practice, and discussing what can be done if things aren’t going to plan.

RUMA targets and Sheep Veterinary Society Good Practice Guidelines both indicate that it is not appropriate for all lambs to be treated routinely with antibiotics from the start of any new lambing season. Antibiotic treatments should only be targeted towards high-risk individuals, following a proactive flock health plan. Plenty of flocks and vets have made this change and successfully maintained good levels of lamb welfare but others may be concerned and this webinar is for you.
