NSA Marches Region Next Generation Shepherd competition and training day

NSA Marches Region invites members and all other interested parties to join them for its regional heat of the NSA Next Generation competition, kindly hosted by Holme Lacy College.

The competition gives keen young sheep farmers chance to show off their skills while competing for a slice of the generous prize pot and the opportunity to represent NSA Marches Region in the NSA Next Generation Shepherd national finals held next July at NSA Sheep Event 2024. The competition is open for all aged 16 to 26 (Must be aged under 27 on 30th July 2024) living or working in the counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, and Warwickshire.

Competitors will be required to complete five out of six common shepherding tasks from the following list:

  • Animal Health questionnaire (This element is compulsory)
  • Animal health mock administration
  • Ewe selection and body condition scoring
  • Lamb selection
  • ATV handling
  • Shearing (Competitors must hold a Blue Seal certificate to compete in this element)

In addition to the competition those seeking to learn new or improve on their current skills will be able to watch demonstrations and speak with experienced and knowledgeable shepherds and industry experts, including British Wool qualified shearing judges and veterinary professionals.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
