NSA Central Region farm walk

Date: 15th August 2019

Time: 4pm

Location: JCB Farms Ltd, Eid Low Farm, Ramshorn Rd., Oakamoor, Staffordshire, ST10 3BY

NSA Central Region enjoyed a tour of Lord Bamford's JCB farm in Staffordshire on Thursday 15th August. The well-attended farm walk included a tour of the sheep unit by Matt Haydon, Head of Livestock and NSA Next Generation Ambassador. Matt explained the system and showed the visitors their Lleyn flock, ranking in the UK's top 1% with both rams and replacement ewes homebred, both pure and to a Ryeland tup allowing them to draw prime lambs throughout the year. The farm supplies its own Daylesford farm shops and the excess goes to supply restaurants in London. The visitors also had the opportunity to tour the poultry unit which is self-sufficient on meat and eggs. As a self-contained organic farm, it also has an onsite abattoir and runs around 100acres of arable land alongside the sheep, poultry, Aberdeen Angus and South Devon Cattle and herd of deer. Those attending heard some closing words from NSA Central Region Chairman David Howlett and Vice Chairman James Bickerton who appealed to members to get involved with the committee.
