Looking forward and looking back at NSA Cymru/Wales AGM

13th February 2014

The National Sheep Association in Wales is inviting all sheep farmers to join them at Hafod-y-Hendre on the Royal Welsh Showground, 2pm on Tuesday 18th February for its Annual General Meeting and liver fluke workshop.

The combination of these two events will allow NSA Cymru/Wales to look back at a hugely successful year and look forward with a positive outlook for controlling the increasingly complex problem of liver fluke.

David Pittendreigh will complete his two-year term as NSA Cymru/Wales Chairman at the meeting and is looking forward to reflecting on his time in the top spot and seeing his successor elected. He says: “Sheep farming has seen some ups and downs during the time I’ve been Chairman, but NSA has provided a voice for producers throughout and I look back with pride over my two years in the role. I wish my successor lots of luck and hope he enjoys the role as much as I did, meeting many like-minded sheep farmers and responding to their views during difficult times and positive ones.”

The meeting will be followed by a liver fluke workshop with Dr Neil Mackintosh and vet Kate Hovers. They will be joined by Margaret Dalton, sheep farmer and NSA Cymru/Wales Committee Member, who has had to deal with severe fluke infestations on her own farm and will share her experiences of the problem.

Kate Hovers says: “I will be talking about the liver fluke life cycle, risk and treatment. Liver fluke has been increasing in recent years due to successive wet summers and has cost the UK sheep industry a significant amount – finding out how to tackle it will benefit all sheep farmers.”

An agenda for the meeting and minutes of the 2013 AGM can be found in the Events section of the NSA website.
