NSA Sheep Event shearing competition powered by solar

For the first time, the National Sheep Event’s shearing competition is to be powered by sunshine. The solar panels are to be located in the brand new renewable energy area adjacent to the shearing shed.
“The NSA shearing competition always draws a good crowd, mainly due to the high calibre of entrants and this year will be no exception as renewable energy is introduced to play a key role in the event,” says British Wool Marketing Board Shearing Trainer and NSA South West Regional Vice Chairman Alan Derryman.
“It is set to be an exciting contest and this new dimension is a reflection of how today’s sheep sector is embracing innovation."
Solar panels for the event are to be provided by Lightsource, who will be hosting workshops on solar power opportunities for sheep farmers throughout the day.
“The use of solar power to run the shearing machines is a great example of how we can put flexible solar energy to practical uses within the sheep industry,” says Alan.
Tickets for the Sheep Event on 30 July are now available for the advance purchase price of £10, a saving of £5 on the gate price.
‘Early-bird’ tickets can be purchased from http://www.sheepevent.org.uk until 11 July. NSA members can purchase one advance ticket per membership card at the reduced rate of £6.
This year’s event also features a video competition aimed at showcasing the sheep industry at its best and offers a chance to win a top prize of £400. The closing date for the competition is 16 May. The shortlisted videos will be professionally edited to create a three-minute advert and should be submitted to enquiries@nationalsheep.org.uk under the subject ‘Sheep Event Video Competition’.
