NSA Breakfast Club webinar: What the future holds – a meeting with Defra Farming Minister Mark Spencer

This webinar provided a unique opportunity to hear from newly appointed Defra Minister of State Mark Spencer. Mr Spencer’s previous role was as leader of the House of Commons, along with a short stay on the EFRA committee, many will be encouraged to know that Mr Spencer has a long farming history having studied agriculture & has been involved with the farming business back in Nottinghamshire.

NSA Northern Ireland Region - Sheep Farmer Meetings

The NSA Northern Ireland Region is gearing up to host a series of farmer meetings from the end of September and through October. Taking the lead on this are Parklands Vets, with support from MSD Animal Health. The aim of these meetings is to refresh and update new thinking to our sheep farmers knowledge on the benefits of a healthy flock which has never been more important than at present with the pressures of price increases and efficiencies needed to improve the sheep sector’s carbon footprint.

NSA South East Region Farm Walk
Time: 10.30 for 11.00am start
Location: Rushall Farm, Scratchface Lane, Bradfield. Reading. RG7 6DL
Clear skies and warm weather welcomed over 50 enthusiastic attendees to the NSA South East Region farm walk in West Berkshire. We firstly saw a mixed species sward providing grazing for some of Steve Waters 600 Lleyn ewes at Rushall Farm. Followed by a tour of cover crops for outwintering.

NSA Cymru/Wales Region farm walk in conjunction with HCC
Time: 3pm
Location: Maes Bach Farm, Pontypridd, CF38 1SL
NSA Cymru in conjunction with Hcc held an excellent farm walk this week, hosted by the Johnson family of Maes Bach Farm, Pontypridd. Visitors were treated to a tractor and covered trailer ride around the farm to see how the farm is embracing ‘Preventative, proactive flock health management as part of the Stoc+ scheme, together with a 40-acre area covered with solar panels, which proved to be great shelter when turning ewes and lambs out.

A great evening of relative information for sheep farmers at the NSA/ Parklands Vet meetings. That was the comment from farmers attending the events, another was “ A worthwhile and interesting evening”. NSA are glad to hear that those attending gained something from the talks given by John Grant from Parklands and Cara Sheridan, Ruminant Veterinary Specialist with MSD Animal Health.
