NSA welcomes the lifting of the ban on exports of sheep meat to the USA
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is pleased to hear the news of the USDA publishing a final rule which lifts the BSE-related restrictions on imports of sheep and goat products to the USA. British lamb exports to the USA have been banned since 1989, following the first outbreak of BSE in Britain.

NSA welcomes farming incentive scheme detail but expresses concerns over reality of the transition
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is pleased to hear the long-awaited detail published today on the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer for 2022 and beyond. Whilst NSA welcomes a clearer roadmap for the transition period and the plans for new scheme development, it is raising concern about the effect of the transition and the respective level of support in these first few years.

Scottish upland sheep farmer wins NSA prize
Winning a Solway lamb adopter will certainly ease lambing time for Lucy Beattie from Ullapool on the West coast of Scotland who is the latest winner of National Sheep Association’s (NSA) membership prize this year. With her family, Lucy farms 200 North Country Cheviot and Mule breeding ewes alongside tourism diversification businesses on grass and hill parkland.

NSA responds strongly to article labelling sheep 'a menace of the countryside'
The National Sheep Association (NSA) is shocked and disappointed by factually incorrect and damaging comments made of UK sheep farming in yesterday’s Daily Telegraph (Thursday 25th November 2021). In the article titled ‘There’s a fluffy white menace that is spoiling Britain’s National Parks’ ‘destination expert’ Chris Moss labels sheep as a blot on the landscape suggesting they be removed from National Parks and failing to recognise their importance to the countryside he is enjoying or the rural communities that so many appreciate visiting.
