QMS provides guidance to members on Health Plan dispensation
In 2022 QMS recognised that due to the uncertainty from the war in Ukraine, and the resulting challenges at farmgate, a dispensation was allowed on standard 3.3 and 3.4. These standards are related to the vet sign-off of the farm health plan and the annual livestock health and performance review.

Urgent action needed to halt helpless acceptance of sheep worrying by dogs
The UK sheep sector is at risk of being permanently forced to live with the devastating consequences of dog attacks. That is the concerning belief of the National Sheep Association (NSA), after findings from its annual survey into the serious issue revealed disheartened and discouraged farmers fear the threat of sheep worrying affecting their flocks on a regular basis.

Minute-writer sought for NSA Scottish Region committee meeting
NSA Scottish Region is looking for an individual to write minutes of various committee meetings in an efficient and accurate manner. A set fee of £75 per set of minutes will be paid, for a minimum of four meetings per year and maximum of 12. Meetings are typically three hours long, in either the afternoon or evening.

NSA condemns negativity around UK red meat production
Following spurious claims about production costs and withdrawal of support from red meat supply chains, the National Sheep Association (NSA) is condemning the current negativity around the production and sale of UK lamb. Phil Stocker, NSA Chief Executive, says: “NSA was disappointed to hear the announcement by Aldi that it is dropping support for British-produced lamb and beef, following hot on the heels of the irresponsible suggestion by John Allan, Tesco Chair, that food producers are taking advantage of the poor in society by pushing up food costs.

More clarity but FAST action needed on co-design for successful ag policy
Following sustained pressure on the Scottish Government in recent months to better communicate plans for future agriculture policy, industry stakeholder group FAST welcomed some clarity given by the Cabinet Secretary, Mairi Gougeon, last week. The Food & Agriculture Scotland Taskforce (FAST) was established in Autumn 2022 following frustrations about the lack of clear communication and engagement from Scottish Government with the sector, regarding policy developments.
